EDUCATION OPTIONS: Invitation to participate in DaVinci School’s focus groups re: An Alternative Model for K-8 Education

Hello Parents,

I wanted to pass this on to you, in case you hadn’t yet heard of Da Vinci’s newest endeavor: a K through 8 school, to be built in conjunction with TIDES (formerly Pacifica Charter), and UCLA.  (UCLA’s involvement was announced at our education department board meeting this month.  We discussed ways in which UCLA will be participating in this endeavor…)  A bond has already been passed to fund the construction of this school, and the charter has already been approved (since 2 years ago).   I am excited that this represents another FREE choice for families!

TIDES (as pacifica) was an NVC-based educational model, which, as such, I wholly support and am excited about!  And if this elementary school is created in the likeness of DaVinci HIgh School, it will also feature a constructivist curriculum (a learning/teaching approach that embraces multiple learning styles), which is also something appealing to many students and parents alike, given that it is a program that results in highly motivated learners.

Da Vinci Innovation Academy is bringing a new approach to K-8 education and is interested in learning from parents of current Pre-K to 4th grade students. We present an educational alternative to the traditional school model — a place where students can discover their passions and talents.

We are looking to learn from parents who want more for their children, possibly including:

• personalized learning

• academically rigorous

• enrichment opportunities based on your child’s interests

• parental participation

• a flexible schedule

• embedded gifted and talented education for all

• development of “the whole child”, and

• a program where children learn to navigate the world and to think independently and in groups..

Subject to confirmation, you are cordially invited to attend one of our small focus group discussions in December.

The discussions will be held at a Playa Vista-area location (to be disclosed upon confirmation).
